Your hosts Michael and Rusty get you up to date on the back-and-forth that has ensued from former Hillsong singer Marty Sampson’s announcement that he’s losing his faith. Along the way, they discuss John Cooper (of Skillet) and his viral rebuke, truth and feelings, psalms of doubt and lament, and the important role the local community plays in an artist’s spiritual health.
Stay tuned until the end to hear “Valley” by Civilized Creature off of The Way Back Home.
Relevant magazine? The name show…eh…the lack of relevance, from the start!
Good show, both back and forths seem pretty worthless but that’s the Internet, my brothers. 4K followers???
Uh, a viral dog show is a lot more… but, I guess I’m getting mixed up with YouTube. I suppose some people listen to Hillsongs? Skillet? uh…why??
Love Renew the Arts, BTW.
I’m not sure there is a depth in the complexity of the faith with the said person as much as a driven in shallowness and maybe he’s just tired of 3 chords and milk. It seems to be much more a problem of the celebrity pastor culture and MIC. It’s more to do with CCM tripe and watered down theology of so much of the jellydom than anything else. I’d include most reformed churches as well.
It’s a problem of NOT touching the Third Rail of real issues (almost all relevant issues for that matter) and too much navel-gazing.
Hillsongs is just the tip of the iceberg.
I’ve met loads and loads of kids that are concerned about NOT getting to feedback INTO the “clergy”. They feel shut down when Q and A’s arrive.
Not sure if I’m even slightly making myself clear here.
Both of the back and forth guys
Skillet vs. Hillsongs, seem to equate Sunday morning stuff with “worship”.
Ah…just heard it…celebrity Christianity…
I’d point to Joseph Foreman and Bojidar Marinov and/or Joel McDurmon and Jason Garwood with more in-depth on these types of problems…
As for 20 year olds, Timothy may well have been around that age, thus maturity is not necessarily age…the Skillet guy was wrong on that…
Maturity, ultimately has to do with the ability to judge Biblically between right and wrong and act accordingly. The Spiritual/mature man judges rightly.
Harris, Schaeffer and others seem to desire to remain celebrities in their apostasies…
I agree on the trade off between emotion and mental…
For the Reconstructing of Emotions I’d point to Cross and Crown church’s last 5 sermons on that subject.
As for the local body stuff…show me where there is one that isn’t 501c3 ward of the state….where are these local bodies????
Good stuff! Honestly I’m one of the people who shared John’s response, but ironically for emotional reasons…and really I heard John talk about it later, and he said as much about posting it. It’s heartbreaking to see these things happen. So I must have read past the parts in his response I didn’t agree with…I never even noticed he said anything about truth in opposition to emotion. And Honestly I don’t think John himself would agree with that when it comes to it. But the internet makes us stupid! 😉
