Abbey and Michael get together to discuss how deconstruction within the church is both fed and addressed by the arts. What exactly do we mean by deconstruction? Why is it so prevalent right now? What does it have to do with the arts?
Stay tuned at the end to hear “Oh, Sweetest Name” by John Van Deusen from his record, (I Am) Origami Pt. 4 — Marathon Daze.

Thanks for this discussion. I didn’t have a lot of context about deconstruction, but it is a relevant discussion to me because I do have a child who once processed faith and now professes disbelief. She has specifically mentioned the damage to her mental health of the idea of Hell, as one part of her complaints. That specific portion of the discussion helped me understand her perspective more to help me engage with her more fruitfully. And the other parts of the discussion supported me in the other aspects of our on-going conversations. Loving my child through this struggle is heart-wrenching and so difficult, and it means a lot to me when I find encouragement and help. Thank you.
Thank you for commenting, Lisa. I’m glad this conversation was an encouragement. There is so much more to be said about deconstruction in its larger context than we could cover in an hour, and having these conversations when a lot is at stake (like you’re having to do) is far more difficult than having them in the abstract with people who mostly agree with you. I appreciate your encouragement, and it means a lot to us that our conversation was at all encouraging and helpful to you!
